It’s that time of year again. BarCampMilwaukee2 is just three weeks away! This is a weekend “un-conference” going nonstop from 10 AM Saturday, October 13 through 4 PM Sunday, October 14 at the Schlitz Park Center, 1555 Rivercenter Dr. in downtown Milwaukee (map).
So what is this thing? It is a gathering of people passionate about technology, creativity, communication…well, it’s open to just about anyone passionate about anything. BarCamp is the place to share your passions with others of like mind. Everyone is asked to participate at some level. Ideally, you can lead a session; but if you’re not into that, you can participate at any level you want.
Some of you may recall my posts from last year’s BarCampMilwaukee, these may give you a better sense of what goes on.
You can see what kinds of things people are planning for this year’s event on the Sessions page. I will probably deliver a new version of the History of Desktop Linux this year, with an emphasis on what’s up for the future.
So what does it cost to attend this event with all these fascinating people? The Registration fee is: $0.00. Right, no charge. PLUS, if you register right now–well, by Wednesday, September 26, you will get a truly cool t-shirt that fits you (we’re going to order some extras, but you’re only guaranteed a shirt with early registration).
If you have any time at all on this weekend, you really ought to come. You’re not required to stay all night (though you’ll miss the Drupal-thon if you don’t), or for more than an hour if you don’t want to. There is food (yep, that’s free too) at the standard intervals, caffeinated beverages, and whatever else people bring to the event.
I am thrilled to bits that my employer, Compuware, decided to sponsor BarCampMilwaukee2. And there will be a batch of books from my publisher as well. If our luck holds, I may even have a few copies of openSUSE Linux Unleashed on hand.
This is where you Get Started. I look forward to seeing all my readers here.
